Bookish Stuff

On the first day of Christmas Barnes and Noble gave to me….

Dear goodness dear goodness dear goodness

So much to say…. how can I fit it all? SO MUCH HAPPENED

First off, Barnes and Noble I love you. You are the best.

Today my dad, brother, and I went out shopping for my mom (and for each  other as we sneaked off and hid books behind our backs and ate the free cookies that come with your purchase at the Starbucks counter) **

**Sidenote: Ummmm, coffee and books in the same place = happy little bookgobbler

at Barnes and Noble, and for those of you who don’t know I am obsessed with Barnes and Noble. Sure, the ebook is the best thing since book signing tours, and beautiful amazon kindles have made books 100 times easier to buy (which is scary considering how much I read before :)), but just the feel of a book in your hand, the way the edges crinkle, the way the ink smells as it wafts off the page. There’s something magical about holding a book in your hands and Barnes and Noble will never be out of style to me.

I got some great gifts for my family and friends and B&N, but I also found TONS of incredible writer stuff including to-die-for journals and these great devotionals.

My favorite thing has to have been the ‘writing prompt notebooks’ though. It’s literally a journal with prompts for you to write about every day of the year. Let me rephrase that.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG ITS A GOSHDARNIT JOURNAL FOR WRITING THE PERSON WHO INVENTED THIS IS BRILLIANT

AHHHHHHHHHH

eep

So as I was smiling like a crazy person with these prompts I noticed this sign outside for a blog for Barnes and Noble. And I proceeded to freak out more. Because apparently Barnes and Noble has this crazy awesome blog with quotes from books that you can say when you get married, and books to read, and new authors. And as if that isn’t ENOUGH they have a Pinterest with MORE BOOK STUFF. I’m about to have a book-lover heart-attack. How did I never know this existed? I can’t believe I’ve gone this long and never read their blog.

It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous

So after all that you must be thinking, ok she has to be done now, but no my friends there is more.

So for this Christmas I was really hoping to improve my writing skills and maybe take a class or two on how to improve them and things like that, since I’m still a novice novelist I love to get help from experienced writers. And as I was looking around for what I wanted to do I stumbled across my local library’s (hey guys!) teen page and they have FREE writing classes online taught by writers with masters in creative literature. I mean…. WHAAAA

I’m now taking a six week long class ( can you believe it can you believe it??) that teaches everything from how magic should and shouldn’t work and how politics affect your novel, to the art of character and world building. It’s incredible. Our teacher is an absolute genius at writing and I’m so excited about this class. I’ve grown so much as a writer and met so many other great writers through this class, and man Mrs. Anderson  has forced us to improve by making us write write write.

I think you can still join a class (EEEEEE) if you’re a crazy writerholic like me and want something fun to do over the break.

UPDATE: The link is here.

And on a note from Barnes and Noble’s fabutastical post about quotes….

“True love is the best thing in the world, except for cough drops. Everybody knows that.”
The Princess Bride, by William Goldman

Hugs and warm holiday wishes (stay snuggly and cozy! :))

    1. Thanks so much! OMG yes Barnes and Noble is awesome. You go girl, feed the addiction!

The link for the writing classes is: http://education.gale.com/l-mari95571/ . They are swiggdidly scrumptious for bookworms, and I can promise you’re in for some great instruction :). And like 10 hours of writing, so get out the wrist braces :D. I’ve been having some funky computer craziness with the wordpress tech (sadly although being tech savvy runs in the family, I missed the gene :D) so the linking may have wigged. Apologies for the link not working, I’ll see what I can do *rolls up sleeves*.

Thanks for stopping by! I love your ‘Amazing You’ tag. 🙂
